This mixed media painting has many textural elements to it, including prepared tyvek, plaster of paris "stones", corrugated paper, and caulk squiggle. I wanted to do a neutral palette painting with one predominant accent color - in this case the turquoise.

"Tucson Vibe" 10x10 mixed media by Carol Nelson

I was inspired by the colors of the desert in Arizona on my recent trip to Tuscon, where I taught a workshop for the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona (CASA).

This painting features my newly developed "leftover sandwich" technique for creating abstract work. This technique, along with many of my other processes, will soon be available in a video I'm working on. We haven't gotten the filming done yet, but expect to in about two weeks.

After post-production work, it should become available by the end of May.

This is a 40x60 commission painting done for the state of Colorado. I've never done a painting this large before, and, since I'm not even 60 inches tall, it was cumbersome for me to handle.

Geological Abstract Art Painting "Sacred Ground'" by Colorado Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson

This is another in my geologic abstract series celebrating warm, earthy tones of the West. I must apologize for the photo in that the copper and gold metal foil squares do not appear shiny. 

Also, there are several passages in the painting that have soft metallic sheen which do not show on the photo.

A black canvas floater type frame complements this work perfectly and is INCLUDED, along with shipping in the US.

It demonstrates hammered copper wire, cut sheet copper, copper tacks, and embossed aluminum foil, along with other texture elements.
